The Old Store
Gather, Connect, and Experience Local History at The Old Store
For groups looking for a meeting space with character, The Old Store at Grassy Creek offers a setting that feels far removed from a traditional conference room. Located in a historic building in Grassy Creek, The Old Store combines local history, outdoor gathering spaces, seasonal activities, and the charm of a small community gathering place.
Originally built around the turn of the 20th century, the building has served many roles throughout its history, including a general store, doctor's office, and post office. The Chefas family renovated the building and reopened it as a general store and small event venue, bringing new life to a place that has long been part of the Grassy Creek community. Much of the décor and many of the artifacts throughout the store are original to the building or date back to the 1950s and 1960s.
A Gathering Space with Room to Connect
The Old Store offers several outdoor spaces for meetings, presentations, team gatherings, and informal networking. A large pergola provides a covered setting with a microphone available for presentations, making it a great spot for bringing a group together while enjoying the surrounding countryside.
A large porch offers another comfortable space for conversation, meals, and casual gatherings, while the gazebo creates a smaller setting for relaxing outdoors or enjoying time between meetings. The property also features additional outdoor space, giving groups room to spread out and enjoy the setting.
Local History and Appalachian Craftsmanship
A gathering at The Old Store is also an opportunity to experience the history and culture of Ashe County. Visitors can browse locally made foods, crafts, gifts, and handmade items created by artisans from the area. The store's historic décor and displays tell the story of Grassy Creek and the generations of families who have called the community home.
For corporate groups, the setting offers a chance to step away from the usual meeting environment and experience a place with a genuine connection to the community.
Seasonal Experiences
The Old Store changes with the seasons, offering unique experiences throughout the year. During the summer, groups can enjoy the blueberry patch and seasonal pick-your-own blueberries. In the fall, pumpkins and other seasonal offerings bring even more character to the property.
During the holiday season, the property becomes home to a Christmas tree lot featuring fresh-cut Fraser firs from Hart-T-Tree Farms, along with handmade wreaths and other holiday offerings. The store also shares the story of Christmas tree farming in North Carolina through its year-round Christmas tree education center.
A Place to Slow Down and Gather
The Old Store provides a memorable setting for team meetings, presentations, workshops, company gatherings, and group events. Instead of spending the entire day inside a conventional meeting room, groups can gather under the pergola, relax on the porch, explore local handmade goods, and enjoy the changing seasons of Ashe County.
With a historic setting, welcoming outdoor spaces, local products, and plenty of room to connect, The Old Store offers a distinctive way to bring your team together and experience the character of Grassy Creek.
